Hello! My name is Claire Jorgensen and this will be my first year of teaching at Marsing Elementary. I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho and went to Centennial High School. Following this, I went to Idaho State University in Pocatello, where I received my Bachelors in K-12 Secondary Education, majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Health Education. I then decided to pursue my Masters in Athletic Administration, so I spent one more year at ISU. During this time, I was grateful for the opportunity to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Sport Science and Physical Education Department, where I taught 1-credit physical activity classes to college students. I completed my student teaching in Driggs, Idaho in Physical Education K-5. This was an unforgettable, fulfilling experience as I was surrounded by a welcoming, positive environment, where the focus was on the individual student and maximizing potential/learning opportunities. I loved getting to know all 400 of my students! As a side note, living at the base of the Tetons (Grand Targhee) for a semester wasn’t too bad either.

From the time I was in 8th grade doing a career project, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I also knew I enjoyed being active and had a passion for maintaining a strong, healthy body and I loved working with kids, therefore I went into the Physical Education and Health teaching field. It’s very rewarding to be able to share what I love doing and see kids gain confidence and self-esteem. Being active and feeling strong and healthy is important at any age throughout life, but it’s especially crucial at the early elementary age when kids are still developing, whether it’s physically, mentally, and/or emotionally.

When I’m not at school/teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Most likely, you can find me outside! However, a few of my favorites are hiking, mountain biking, camping, and skiing. I also enjoy running and playing any sports (especially basketball!) I love living in the Treasure Valley for the wealth of recreation and quality of life that is offered. Get out and play!

I’m so excited to be at Marsing Elementary! It’s hard to beat the small town feel, where everyone is on the same team working together toward a common goal/shared purpose. There is so much more that can be done when everyone is supporting and encouraging each other toward success, which ultimately leads to the student’s success. When I first stepped foot in Marsing Elementary, I immediately noticed the warm, friendly feel resembling a small cohesive unit, or family. I look forward to getting to know each of my students, as well as their families. This is going to be a great year!
